
Alberta Mining Labour Market Analysis 2025
The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) assessed labour demand for critical occupations in Alberta’s mining industry and investigated the points of attraction along the tight labour supply pipeline.
The resulting report explores the labour market and its importance to Alberta’s mining and resources sector. Its analysis aims to benefit mining industry HR decision makers and engage career seekers by providing insights about the types of career opportunities and potential for professional growth in the industry.

Social Contest Scholarship
MiHR ran an Alberta post-secondary student $1000 scholarship social media video contest. The deadline to apply was March 31, 2025.
Applicants were to be registered in a full-time or part-time post-secondary mining, geology or minerals processing-related post-secondary program; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person with refugee protection given under the law; and demonstrate an interest in entering a career in Alberta’s mining – minerals, metals and oil sands industries.
Applicants sent their proof of educational enrolment and creative videos to scholarship@mihr.ca, showcasing why they chose mining education and what makes them a good fit for a mining career.
By submitting, the successful applicant agreed to have their video featured on MiHR’s social media platforms and www.MiningNeedsYou.ca.

Become a Mining Industry Career Ambassador
MiHR is actively recruiting Career Ambassadors in Alberta to inspire the province’s next generation of mining workers. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic Career Ambassadors deliver speaking engagements to youth in person and virtually.
Beyond the Surface Advertisements
Video, social, web and print advertisements have been developed as part of this initiative to highlight the diverse and engaging career opportunities within Alberta’s mining – minerals, metals and oil sands industries.
Resources are available for mining stakeholders to access and include their company or school branding for their organizations’ use. Contact wmeyer@mihr.ca for more information and to request advertising resources.
